The headline performance of the evening came in the women's 5,000 metres, where University of Victoria Vikes athlete Maddie Eybergen produced a remarkable solo effort to break one of the meet's longest-standing records. Running much of the race from the front, Eybergen crossed the finish line in 15:30.36, eclipsing the previous meet record of 15:32.13 set by Olympian Robyn Meagher in 1996.

Eybergen's performance was one of several highlights for the University of Victoria. Eighteen Vikes athletes competed at the meet, with nine recording personal best performances, demonstrating the strength and depth of the university program.

Another historic performance came in the para-athlete competition where Ash Renneberg of the Vancouver Thunderbirds established a new Canadian Under-20 F13 javelin record with a throw of 33.87 metres. The mark added another memorable chapter to the meet's long history of outstanding performances.

Additional standout performances were recorded throughout the evening as athletes took advantage of ideal conditions and strong competition in one of British Columbia's premier track and field meets.

"This year's Victoria Track Classic showcased exactly what our event is all about," said Chris Siver, President of the RunSport Society and host of the annual Victoria Track Classic. "From young competitors experiencing a major meet environment for the first time to university athletes achieving personal bests and breaking records, the future of athletics in our community is very bright."

The meet brought together athletes from across British Columbia and Vancouver Island, providing a valuable competitive opportunity for competitors at every stage of development. From youth and high school athletes to club competitors, para athletes and university standouts, the event celebrated the depth of talent within the province's athletics community.

Organizers would like to thank the University of Victoria, Andrew Sheret, Greater Victoria Sports Tourism, BC Athletics, officials, volunteers, sponsors and supporters whose contributions helped make the 2026 RunSport Victoria Track Classic another successful event.

As athletes continue their seasons toward provincial and national championships, performances at this year's event demonstrated that the next generation of British Columbia track and field athletes are ready to make their mark.
